I am a 4th-grade educator in my second year. I love where I work. The students here at KES are always eager to learn and they have such amazing spirits. Last year, I had the opportunity to put into place a student council to empower our student body. Our school thrives and loves it. I feel it gave the school a sense of pride and investment. The students not part of the program enjoy it and participate in the fun activities.
Since we are part of a small agricultural town, which is starting to boom; we are in need to catch up in the time of technology and getting tools in the classroom that assist in enhancing student learning.
My Project
The materials that are being requested are to allow for growth in a fun learning activity. For literacy, Scrabble and Banana Grams are a fun way to learn to make and build vocabulary. With a dictionary provided, it allows them to tap into vocabulary learning in a way that isn't familiar or easy for today's students. Thus providing a skill, like looking into a dictionary, provides students with a learning tool that can and will assist in years to come. For math, Monopoly teaches money, counting, adding and subtracting. Along with these basic math skills, you learn grace and good sportsmanship. These games also provide visual-spatial learning that students need to be able to see outside the box.
