My "groovy" students are unique individuals who happen to have a variety of special needs and abilities. They are learning to be self-advocates who persevere through challenges to achieve independence in the areas: social, academic, and communication. Their talents are many, including kindness, grit, determination, humor, imagination, and, creativity. Seeing their daily growth and commitment to overcome stigmas and barriers is an inspiration. They are the embodiment of compassion, kindness, and friendship. They can conquer challenges and exercise this ability daily. In our classroom, we celebrate the choice to do hard things! And, we do it with humor, taking it all in stride!
My Project
Help me give my students with different abilities the opportunity to learn at home with games! Research for students with significant disabilities show they learn through interactive materials and differentiated approaches.
Simply put, my students need more than worksheets and instructional videos to access their learning at home.
It is critical my students with developmental delays have access to distinct opportunities to socialize and take turns. Board games are an excellent resources for my students to benefit socially, communicatively, and academically. The components in these specifically selected games for my students individualized needs are essential for their growth to achieve greater access to educational opportunities in core content areas.
