My students are a brilliant group of 18 eight- and nine-year-olds. Each one has a different passion, but all of them have a love for education.
We are a Title I school.
Title I means over 65% of our school student population is living below the poverty line. Many of the students at my school come from one-parent households or are being raised by grandparents or other relatives. While this is disheartening, the lack of resources at home has never stopped my students from wanting to learn more.
All kids love to play! They especially love to play board games. The board games requested will help to bring all subject areas to life through fun, interactive games. Almost any board game can be adapted to meet the needs within the classroom. The game "Guess Who?" can transform into a multiplication review game. The game "Connect 4" can pair with any set of task cards. The options are endless!
When students are actively engaged in a task their learning skills soar, and what better way to make that happen then through games!
The board games will not only help us through learning new skills in math, reading, science, and social studies but will also come in handy on those days where going outside to recess is not an option. The students can use the board games to occupy their recess time in a way that gets them excited, especially on harsh winter days and smoldering summer afternoons.
