Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 7-8 year old, gifted and talented children. My students' are highly focused on academics, and are very motivated to do their best.
They study a variety of subjects over the course of the year and enjoy working in groups, or with a partner to understand and apply new concepts.
In addition to academic greatness, my students also excel in other areas like performing arts, visual arts, music or athletics. Some of my students even stay after school to participate in enrichment programs.
My Project
Math and Language arts are core subjects that are extremely important for students to master. In order to monitor my students' progress in these two core subjects I look at how they are doing in their independent practice.
Before I evaluate my students' independent practice I ask myself; are my students' understanding what they learned, and is the activity I provided my students engaging?
I believe that by incorporating language arts and math games as an option for independent practice my students will be able to practice their skills while simultaneously having fun. In my classroom student engagement is just as important as the content being taught.
