Help me give my students the light up toys, cooperative board games and sensory materials to help them learn positive social-emotional and play skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
These 3-5 year olds know how to play hard and work hard! Most of them have some sort of learning difference and need specially designed instruction. We are located in the most diverse district in Washington and we have at least 75% of our children qualify for free or reduced lunches. In my class I have 10 different cultures represented.
We have a lot of children with a variety of disabilities - blind, deaf, Autism, etc.
They need a variety of items that are specialized for their needs. These items will be used to help them attend, engage and participate in our learning activities.
My Project
The light up toys that I'm requesting are for my students that are visually impaired. They are not interested in many toys because they can't see them, but the light up toys will be visually exciting and engaging and will help those students learn to play.
The board games are designed for preschoolers with short attention spans and are meant to build cooperation rather than competition.
These items will help me provide engaging opportunities to my students that need to learn how to play with toys appropriately, and how to share and take turns with their peers. I would love to teach my students how to play with their peers and develop positive relationships with one another. These toys and games would be used directly with them to accomplish that goal.
