My school is an urban magnet school with many different students making up our community. Some live in the neighborhood surrounding the school, while others travel to be a part of what we are doing. These students come together to learn and play throughout their time in elementary school.
Students at my school are provided the opportunity to explore who they are and what they are interested in while still being a child and incorporating game-based learning into their education.
The students at my school are challenged to play and show ingenuity as they learn each and every day. They are very good at it! However, sometimes they need a chance to reinforce the basic skills and standards they are learning. Using games such as Sequence, SNAP, Three Sticks, and Equate will allow them to practice their math skills. Games such as Qwordie and Word-a-melon will help them practice their reading and phonics.
These games and books will serve as a way to play and have fun while still focusing on necessary skills!
Math facts games that also include a level of strategy in them serve dual purposes. Word games and comprehension games make reading even more fun for all learners. Picture books focusing on math will provide context for the skills being taught.
