Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege of working with some pretty amazing 5th grade students who come from very diverse backgrounds. Within our school, 26% of our students are LEP (Limited English Proficient), 6% are homeless or migrant, 98% have applied and qualified for free and reduced-price lunch, and 53% is a minority.
For many of my students school is the one the place they feel safe and loved.
Unfortunately, many of them have faced some difficult realities throughout their lives due to circumstances outside of their control, so it is my goal to create a safe space to cultivate a love of learning.
My Project
Who doesn't love a good game? I know that children (and adults!) tend to learn best when they are having fun! My hope is to create a classroom environment that deepens the love of learning every day through engaging activities. One way I plan to accomplish my goal by providing time each morning for my students to play educational games together. This will establish a fun routine that will help students ease into the upcoming school day.
By donating to my project, you will provide my students with a variety of fun games to help enhance their mathematical, reading, and problem solving skills.
Students can practice their understanding of fractions through resources such as Equivalent Fraction Dominoes, Fraction and Decimal tiles, and Math-Fact-Oh! Simple Machines along with Keva Brain Builders and Maze Bots will help students build spatial awareness and problem solving skills through STEM. Games such as Boggle, Rory's Story Cubes, Wordical, and Afterwords will make writing and spelling fun fore every student! I am excited to bring in new games an activities to bring learning to life for my students!
