My Students

My students are bright, inquisitive fourth graders in Detroit. More than three quarters of them come from low-income household. Despite their challenges, I have high expectations of them. They are maturing and are ready to tackle some real-life issues through reading and discussion. They get along well with each other and love working with partners or in groups. They have set goals to become better critical thinkers and therefore more well-rounded people. Their improving skills cause me to smile every day​ and renew my positive view of the future.

My Project

Research shows that using games in teaching can help increase student participation, foster social and emotional learning, and motivate students to take risks. They can improve students’ attitudes toward learning and boost their academic scores. They are not a substitute for learning, but instead a tool to enhance it. They will be well-planned and integrated only when they’re relevant to the learning targets. Games are interactive. They promote healthy competition and provide opportunities for students to learn from their mistakes. These reading games will allow students to have a good time and learn along the way.
