Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a homeschool, hybrid charter school. They meet with me twice a week and then take what they have learned in the classroom and expand on it at home with their family. My students are passionate about science, history, art, math, reading, and writing. They love expressing themselves in many different ways. My students are very active, creative, and resourceful second and third graders.
They love to share with me their ideas for how to make our classroom better and inspire our always-changing, positive learning environment.
My students love to learn about the world around them and how to apply what they have learned in the classroom. Our classroom is made up of a community of learners who love to explore new ideas. My students foster my own love of learning and always bring new ideas and projects into the classroom for us to study with each other.
My Project
My students love hands-on learning!! During our math rotations each week, my students select games and activities to complete to work towards and prove their mastery of specific math skills and concepts. I love to see my students having fun and enjoying their learning.
I want my students to not only enjoy playing math games but be able to create some new games to share with their classmates!!
The Blank Folding Game Boards, Blank Playing Cards, crayons, and dice will allow my students to let their creative juices flow and come up with some fantastic new math board games. They will follow the process from brainstorming through final production and then present their games to the class. The final test will be can the board games be played and will other students learn from them.
My school focuses on personalized learning and mastery based grading. My students have a voice and choice in their learning and they work at their own pace and level to make progress along their individual learning paths. These games would provide more opportunities for student learning and also help demonstrate mastery along the way.
My students have also enjoyed growing their own herbs and salads using AeroGardens provided through a previously funded project and would like to try growing some new lettuces and some tomatoes. They need seed pod kits as well and additional soil sponges to provide continued opportunities for growth.
