My fourth grade students come from a challenging, low-income, urban community. Despite what is going on outside of school, they come to our classroom excited to learn. I have a very diverse group of students whose backgrounds greatly differ. My students are energetic, ambitious, and determined to learn and succeed. My students love to be hands-on in whatever we do.
My students deserve a quality education with the materials needed to help them succeed and provide them with a desire to become lifelong learners.
I strive to make sure my students have a welcoming and caring environment in our classroom. We work hard at the beginning of every year to make sure we create acceptance and empathy towards one another so that we carry that mentality with us throughout the year as we continue to build on our relationships with one another as a team.
My Project
These new games I have requested will help my students develop their social skills with one another, and they will replace the old games we had to get rid of after a few years of use and missing/broken pieces. While the weather is warm, my students have the opportunity to be outside with one another and interact with students from other classes in our grade level. When the temperature lowers in the winter, they do not have that chance anymore.
These resources will allow my students to work together in groups and build/strengthen their relationships with one another.
They will also be able to practice the social skills we are learning about.
Some of my students were in class with one another last year, and we also have a new mix of students who joined us this year. They are enjoying interacting with and getting to know one another as our year together has begun.
These games will allow them extra time together during both indoor recess as well as time earned through our schoolwide positive behavior program.
