Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kids are a beautiful group of first graders. They are hard working and come from diverse middle class backgrounds. Many of my students, spend extended days at school because both of their parents must work to make ends meet. When students are at home, they spend a large majority of their time engaged in video games and television. This generation of children isn't exposed to social interaction that helps build problem solving skills. This is why I am seeking games that focus on their problem solving, and social development, to help support hard working families in our community who are unable to spend that quality time together.
This project is especially important because we live in a society where peer and social interactions are not as frequent because the ease of technology has taken over.
These board games, classroom materials and other manipulatives will ensure that students are getting chances to problem solve in a manner that focuses on team building.
My Project
These materials will give my students the opportunity to have games they can play with their friends that aren't technology.
I selected items that are STEM based which allows for building, creativity, imaginative play and engineering.
The rug and storage will provide our classroom a structure so they understand and respect our materials while remaining organized. It is essential for students to take pride in our classroom and their learning space. If they play in a space that fosters learning and respect for materials, peers and authority, they are more likely to grow up valuing those skills and traits and will utilize those positive qualities as adults.
