Our school is the only high school in the city of Milpitas, CA, and currently has 3,300 students in its population. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds. Our school is also a very diverse school. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Vietnamese, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Tagalog.
As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics.
We have students who are members of business, engineering, and travel academies, as well as strong athletic, JROTC, performing arts, studio arts, and culinary arts programs. We have students who attend college classes at a community college extension and many AP and honors classes. There are a multitude of teams and clubs that fit the needs of everyone.
My Project
Having graphing dry erase boards for all students in the classroom will give me the chance to know which students are grasping concepts instantly. Having 30+ students in a room is a challenge when it comes to understanding who is ready to move on and who needs more practice. Having dry erase boards and markers for each student will give me the opportunity to check for understanding from any place in the room at once, rather than using class time walking around to each student individually.
The students will also be able to work together in tutoring groups to help each other understand ideas.
They will be able to collaborate with each other. Many times students ask me if they can use the white boards to show someone else a concept and these supplies will allow the students to be able to do just that.
