Ms. Francisco from Jacksonville FL is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need binders, composition notebooks and other school supplies so they can track their goals in reading and writing. Each one will serve as proof to the level of success they can achieve when pushed.

True Blue Trojans. These are my students. My students debate with one another openly, and aren't afraid to both listen and critique others' ideas. They rise to every challenge I set in front of them, whether it is with technology, oral presentations, or Socratic seminars. They revise writing without complaining because they own their work. My students inspire people to accept one another. They paint pictures of what they envision their school can be if people rally behind them. My students believe in their own potential.
On the outside you may see just another "dangerous" black kid on his way to a school known more for fights, gangs, and misbehavior than for academic success, but don't be fooled; my students are complex and beautiful leaders who will make a positive difference in this world regardless of what others see or think they know about them.
My students are fighters. They will continue to fight through any challenge placed in front of them because they believe that education is great equalizer. My students are lovers. They see the beauty where others don't and want to recognize and celebrate others in their school, families, and communities.
When each student has a binder, composition notebook, paper, pens, and highlighters, we are truly able to accomplish great things. Our binders will be at the core of our daily work and will serve as a portfolio of my students' growth in the different types of writing. They will track all of their major writing pieces, from poetry, short stories, to argumentative pieces, and will be able to identify and explain how they have improved with each new piece of writing. This is how you create a growth mindset in students.
At the same time, my students will practice empathy by reflecting on our novels, poems, and short stories in their composition notebooks.
These journals will be a safe space for them to question big ideas within a text and how it relates and challenges their worldview. It will be a place for them to relieve their stress in a positive way or reach out to me when they need extra support.
The other items included are ones that are necessary for daily learning and teaching, yet many schools, including mine, place it on the teachers to purchase them throughout the year. Many of things were purchased out of my own pocket last year, and it isn't until now that I realized how much money I spend to pay for my kids. They are beyond worth it and I appreciate any help I can get.
