Game-based Learning: Teaching and Assessing Through Video Games

My Project

These students are a very inquisitive, technologically-advanced group who are intrigued with the advancements in technology, especially as it relates to the ways in which the video game industry has managed to become an asset to learning and education overall. The material will make a difference in their learning as it will afford them with an opportunity to engage with a state-of-the-art gaming system that many of them otherwise do not have access to as a means to further their learning and provide an outlet for learning beyond the curriculum. Scholars will be able to design their own games using math, science, and reading and assess their learning through mathematical and scientific games. Games such as DragonBox Algebra, where students solve math problems in a fantasy environment, will help students master skills such as critical thinking while games such as Civilization will allow players to serve as civic leaders and direct the prosperity of nations. Additionally, the game will support will developing concentration, creativity, memory, languages and teamwork
