My students need interactive engaging hands-on learning games to better their English Language Arts, and fraction, addition, and subtraction basic fact skills.
Our school is located in a small rural community that is continuously growing. We have a variety of students that come from different economic backgrounds at our school. We are located about 20 minutes from a large military base.
There are many military families who move to our community because of the small hometown feel.
There are many students in my classroom and at our school whose parents are actively serving in the military. Our school is a Title I school with grades 3,4, and 5. 46% of our students get free or reduced lunch. As of last school year about 58% of our students were proficient on the Reading EOG and about 54% were proficient on the Math EOG. However, last school year our school did exceed expected growth.
I teach an awesome group of diverse 3rd grade students at a vintage school. My students are an energetic group who are enthusiastic about learning. They love coming to school. In my classroom there is a variety of learners. I have kinesthetic learners who learn best by doing. I have auditory learners who learn best by hearing and also visual learners who learn best by seeing.
My Project
The more engaged my students are the more they love learning. In our state showing proficiency in reading by the end of third grade is a top priority. I know that one way to keep my students gaining and engaged in reading and math is with games.
I am requesting English Language Arts games and also a few math games for my classroom.
We will use these games and hands-on materials daily during our reading and math rounds in our classroom. My students will play the games with classmates to help improve their reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary and math skills.
The Fraction of the Pizza math game will help my students get hands-on practice with fractions and the Pop for Addition & Subtraction game will help my students practice basic facts. The Can Do! Reading games will help boost and develop my students' skills in reading literature and informational, vocabulary, using figurative language, writing, language conventions, parts of speech and also prefixes and suffixes. Other fun games I am requesting are Kooky Carnival: Context Clues, Pirate Island: Reading for Details, Capture the Flag: Reading Comprehension, and Main Street Shopping: Main Idea game. These games will specifically help my students with skills that are so important for them to master in third grade. I am also requesting many different Edupress games for various reading skills like Inferring: School Days, Context Clues: Pirate Treasure, Reading for Detail: Championship Soccer and Word Waffle. The reason I chose both red and blue level games is so that I can differentiate for my students. I have a diverse group of learners in my classroom.
In the end, I want my students to love learning and be able to do it in a fun and engaging way!
