Help me give my students the opportunity to independently read books on their ability level so they can feel confident in reading and grow into a more fluent reader.
I work with 4th-6th grade special education students who are all on different academic levels. My students have multiple learning styles. My students have many different rulings such as autism, EMD, SLD in reading/math, and ID. They are kind and have the sweetest demeanor. They are happy and eager to learn to the best of their ability. They come from a lower SES which makes providing basic school supplies among other necessities difficult. They do not have extra things that many of their peers have. I love them and want to provide the best educational experience possible for each one of them.
My Project
My special education students need to be surrounded by material on their individual ability level. I teach 4th-6th special education students with a wide range of disabilities. They enjoy reading books and looking at the pictures.
My students will have books in our class that they may read based on their individual reading level.
By giving them options, they can explore possibilities by reading about them in the classroom library. This will give them the opportunity to read stories on their own or with minimal support from a peer or teacher.
By giving my students books to read on their level, it will help them to become more fluent readers. They will start on their individual ability level and grow into independent, fluent readers in the months to come.
