Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The kiddos are amazing kids with great hearts. They work hard, and they are super eager to learn. Unfortunately, they live in the most dangerous neighborhoods in town, but that doesn't stop them from learning.
My sixth graders come from low-income households, but that doesn't define them.
They are first-generation students who mainly speak Spanish. The majority of them live in multi-family homes, sharing rooms with multiple siblings. Most of them have a hard time finding a quiet place to participate in online classes. Regardless of their situation, they believe that education is of great value.
My Project
The vast majority of my students started writing this year at a second-grade level, they're in 6th grade. They have improved tremendously and I would like to give them fancy tools to keep them motivated in writing.
Pens of all colors!
The notebooks will be used for their daily writing practice and spelling. The different colored pens will allow them to differentiate their writing whether it be color-coding their paragraphs or their spelling. We use sticky notes for everything. Usually, they annotate when we are doing a class read-aloud and use sticky notes for that. The ink is to be able to print in color. The cardstock is to print their bi-weekly planner (they need sturdy paper so it survives in their backpacks)
