Help me give my students two new Chromebooks to replace the antiquated and ill-functioning laptops that slow our learning down rather than lifting it up!
I teach in a small, urban school with a diverse population. It is composed of two hundred and sixty students in grades PreK- Grade 4. All of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch, and more than forty percent come from homes where English is not the primary language.
My students are eager learners and thrive when presented with hands-on learning opportunities.
In my position as a Content Literacy Teacher, my primary focus is teaching science and social studies to help build background knowledge and vocabulary. I try to provide experiences that these students might not otherwise have.
My Project
Providing hands-on learning opportunities utilizing technology as often as possible is the way I prefer to teach. However, recently our research projects and other computer-based learning experiences have been slowed down big time by old laptops that either won't hold a charge, turn on, or have some other problem. With budget deficits looming over us, obtaining new functional laptops is highly unlikely, so my students and I are hoping to get funding through other sources. We are requesting two new Chromebooks to replace the antiquated and ill-functioning laptops that slow our learning down rather than lifting it up!
Integrating technology helps to not only engage my learners, but also to improve their 21st-century skills.
My goal is to acquire at least fourteen new laptops so that I can pair my students up and put learning at their fingertips. These new Chromebooks will support researching, coding, project-based learning, and the reinforcement of key skills. In this day and age, every student needs access to technology, but to have the greatest impact on learning, the technology needs to be functional and in working order.
Thank you in advance for any support you can offer in helping us to achieve our goal!!
