Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse kids from different countries in Latin America. Our school is located in a low-income area in Texas, and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. My students are all bilingual students who are still recovering from the devastation that was caused earlier last year by Hurricane Harvey. Not many of them were directly affected by the hurricane, but a few students did experience flooding and were forced to move to a different apartment. Because of the trauma they have experienced, I want to create an environment where they feel safe. I want them to look forward to coming to school and to feel completely engaged in all the learning activities.
My Project
My students have little to no experience with Ipads. Most of them never used one before; however, when I took them to the school library to complete a technology project, they were all so excited to work with Ipads. They were extremely engaged and enthused throughout the entire time they were working on their project.
At the beginning of the school year my students lived through a traumatic event during hurricane Harvey.
Some of them moved from one apartment to another due to flooding.
I plan on having my students explore the world with the use of the tablets. They can study the bodies of water, different types of animals, plants, people and many other things. They can also learn how to use Microsoft office programs, create movies, read books online, publish their own books and communicate with one another through the use of Schoology.
