My student's can produce fantastic work: comprehensive notes, scientific diagrams, wonderfully creative projects. The problem is keeping this information in a single organized space. My student's need a way to hold on to their work to so they can study for quizzes, test, and the EOC.
My students are curious 9th graders attending a large public high school in Tennessee.
The school has 80% of students on free or reduced lunch and the college ready rate (21+ on ACT) is 7%. My students have tons of energy and are incredibly enthusiastic about science. While they love doing experiments and projects, they struggle with organizational skills. One of the goals for my freshman is to build their college and career readiness skills. No matter what school or profession they move to they will need to learn how to lead an organized life and binders would help start them on that path.
My Project
The binders will not only provide my students with a greater chance of success in biology, but a greater chance of success in life. My students need to learn how to organize and hold on to important documents. They have to learn how to hold on to notes and class work for the entire year so that they have material to study from for exams. These binders will stay in the classroom and hold each student's individual work. When it comes time for a test they will have all their notes neatly organized. By the end of the year they will have attained advanced or proficient on he end of course test, as well as organizational skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives.
I see most of my students take their work at the end of class, fold it in a square, and place it in a pocket or backpack.
This work is usually never seen from again. Binders would allow them to keep all of their work and build necessary organizational skills. Most of my students can't afford binders, and we need your help to make our organized dream a reality.
