My students need to be inspired by Science! Today's generation is receiving less time learning and exploring Science topics. Please help us by integrating Science into our reading instruction.
Immediately upon walking through the door of our classroom, it is obvious that every student is driven to learn. Our elementary school is a public school just outside of Hershey, Pennsylvania. My 23 students are eager to grow in reading, writing, science and mathematics. They frequently ask me when they get to read more of their books, practice their math facts, or write stories in their journals. Most importantly, they love helping each other learn. Please help us have all the resources to help them grow and learn as much as they can in their 4th grade year. They are an inspiration and our future!
My Project
Unfortunately, Science is the first subject area in elementary schools to lose instruction time. Today, my students receive just 40 minutes of Science OR Social Studies instruction a day (if it is a normal routine day). If we are working on a Social Studies unit they receive zero instruction in Science that day.
Help my students read inspirational science information from magazines during reading instruction!
Newsweek's science magazines are very high interest for them and are full of numerous science topics and how these topics are applied in the real world! Integrating science magazines into our Reading instruction can help them learn as much Science as possible, especially when their Science instruction is so frequently cut to make room for other subject areas. Please help us make Science a part of their future.
