This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In our kindergarten classroom, there is such a mix of different abilities, interests, and goals. Some of my students are working on letters and sounds, some are working on sight words, and others are learning how to read. Our superheroes love to read books, play in centers, and make new friends. I wouldn't have it any other way!
In our classroom, we have a community of learners that work together to reach a common goal: to make it to first grade.
On any day, you will see my superheroes collaborating, communicating, and critical thinking. They love to learn and play together, and I love that they are learning much needed social/emotional skills. It is our goal in kindergarten to teach the whole child.
Our school is a Title I school that serves low income, middle class, and military connected students. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Our school may not have all the resources that we need, but our students have the determination and the drive to be successful no matter where they come from. I love working at my school because our students are special and unique in every way.
My Project
This year I want to make Science time more fun and engaging! I want my superheroes to feel excited about learning because we are doing more hands on experiments.
To make our learning more authentic, I would love to give my superheroes lab coats.
We would use the lab coats for experiments and exploration in Science. This year, we will make slime as we look into physical properties. We will drop an egg as we look at force and motion. And, we will create water tornadoes as we look at weather. These coats will also protect their clothing as we get messy.
My goal is to make personal connections for them to the world of Science, and these lab coats will help me to reach my goal. I am excited to see their faces as we open the box of lab coats. I know they will feel special and excited to wear them.
