I am a science teacher in Nashville, Tennessee at an inner city charter school that serves primarily low income communities. My students are my heart and soul, and are the greatest scientists I've ever met. They crave the opportunity to be truly inside science, watching the things they are learning about in the classroom come alive right before them in experiments. I am not going to let anything come between them from those experiences, especially not funding.
My scientists are ESPECIALLY passionate about space.
When I asked what they wanted to be when they grow up, more than half of them want to be engineers or work for NASA one day. I want to fuel this passion and let them expand their learning even more!
These kids are life changers-- world changers-- and they aren't given enough opportunity to show that to other communities.
These kids are my everything and the reason I go to work each and every day. Because field trips are not in our school's funding, the only thing standing in between these kids and this experience is the means to afford it.
My Project
My students are extremely passionate about Space and many of them want to work for NASA in the future. I have never met so many kids in one place who are as passionate about science as they are. However, they haven't had opportunities to explore NASA more than what they know from their own research. I want them to get up close and personal with their futures!
Bringing these kiddos to the NASA Museum would mean everything to them, their futures, their passion for science, and myself.
They deserve an opportunity to explore the world... or better yet, The Universe!
