Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My campus has more than 80% of our student population who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. To combat the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with a creative and meaningful learning experience. They deserve every opportunity that is available to them.
My students are bilingual and many of them are first-generation elementary students.
A lot of the families were impacted by Harvey, many losing everything, having to start all over again. Despite all the challenges they face, they are always eager to learn new information. "Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and, most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."
I love to see their smiles and how excited they are with the packages. Words can not express their expressions.
My Project
The Reading material will be used daily in the classroom for small group support. Reading is about understanding written text. Reading is essential for 3rd graders especially for English Language Learners (ELL).
In a classroom books are necessity to expand vocabulary, word recognition and comprehension.
Scholars will be exposed to a variety of books. Books are knowledge and learning is a process that takes time. By having small groups in the classroom daily it is expected that they will develop better comprehension skills. The skills necessary to succeed in the future. Books can take you places you never imagine existed.
