Future Problem Solvers and Scientists Coming Together While Socially Distancing
Help me give my students items such as Giant Jenga and Giant Connect Four so they are able to social distance and build comradery while problem-solving.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
For the past several years I have had the utmost pleasure of teaching and fostering the academic and social growth of an amazing group of kindergarten through 5th-grade students. After, the last year and a half of not having the opportunity to support students in school due to the pandemic; I am excited that we are once again able to provide the support our students so desperately need.
In addition to building new and nurturing established relationships with students, it is my hope that students can continue to build relationships with one another as well as their teachers.
Even though this may look different than past years the goal is still the same -- provide eager learners with high-interest resources to support their individual academic needs, support their social growth, and build positive relationships.
My Project
Because my students are in school for an extended period of time (long after many students and even teachers have departed for the day), I want to ensure that not only are they still receiving academic support but that it remains fun and engaging. This is where such materials like the Science Kits come into play (pun intended). Students will be able to explore different science concepts in a hands-on manner they don't usually have. Additionally, I want students to understand that school is yes, about learning first and foremost, but also building relationships, learning how to problem solve and equally important having fun. This is where games like Jenga, Connect Four, and Chess will support life skills like critical thinking, strategizing, and even communication. It is my hope that the students will take away skills that they will use to navigate the world and overcome any obstacles that they may encounter.
