Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Art is usually the last thing teachers have time to do. Yet, it is so important to integrate it into our curriculum. It is a way for students to express themselves and enjoy seeing their creativity in paper.
My students are first graders who live among an impoverished community.
Most, if not all students in our school receive free lunch. While their lives may not be the easiest they sure love to express themselves through their art. They love it when it is "Art Time" and look forward to when it's time to draw and paint.
My Project
I am requesting paints, color pencils, art paper, and crayons. With the different supplies I am requesting, I hope my students will grasp the different types of media and resources they can use to create art. They will be able to learn vocabulary words pertaining to art. I hope they will use that vocabulary to describe their artwork. I also hope that their love of art will carry them until they are adults, and learn to appreciate the many different art forms that are available for them to learn and explore.
This project is so important because art is usually the first thing cut in schools.
Students do not get to learn about famous painters and the techniques and media they used to create their art. By exposing them to art I hope they will learn to love it, and continue to want to learn more about it.
