Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
First grade is the land of innovation and free thinking. It is the place where spirits soar, fear is foreign, and boundaries don't exist. Imagination and technology ignite the minds of our 21st century learners in the classroom every day. We have plenty of imagination, but we need the technology.
Our first grade students arrive at school every morning ready to enter an environment full of exploration, wonder, and learning.
They are the first cohort to participate in our dual language program, which provides equally balanced instruction in both English and Spanish in all subject areas. Our first grade students receive 50% of instruction in English and 50% in Spanish, which requires them to learn how to read and write in both languages. Our school population is made up of English Language Learners and is considered low-income yet, despite economic struggles they endure. Our students, teachers, and parents have dreams of making education accessible to all of our students. Our first graders are eager and enthusiastic about becoming bi-literate members of our dual-language community.
My Project
The resource I am asking for is Apple's iPad Mini. Technology is an integral part of everyday instruction in our classroom. The iPad Mini will be a great resource for our students that will provide conceptual understanding and practice in math. The iPad Mini will make educational applications accessible to students and provide engaging practice in place value, addition, and subtraction with hands on activities. The iPad Mini will enable students to independently access applications designed to meet the differentiated needs of students that are simultaneously learning two languages through interactive, visual, auditory and kinesthetic technology.
Our students are faced with economic adversities that make it difficult to access an equitable education.
They deserve opportunities in school that will provide a better future. Technology will help create a learning environment that enhances student learning and enables mastery of mathematical concepts for students through technology and engaging educational applications. It is my commitment to my students to provide them with an education to fit the needs of a 21st century learner.
