Ms. Hawthorne from Loganville GA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 3 Acer computers for their resource room because they all have a disability and using technology in the classroom would be a great way to meet their needs.

For a lot of students with disability, math can be a difficult subject. Each day I try to make math interesting for my 8th graders by often creating ways for them to be engaged and find a connection through math. What a great addition it would be if they had access to technology!
My students all want to do well, but they have various disabilities.
For so long they have failed, but instead of giving up, they get excited at the smallest of success. They all have dreams of a career and even with all the labels that they have been given, I try to instill in their minds each day that it does not define them. Just today, a teacher told her class that when they "hit the hall way", they need to be quiet. Suddenly one of my students with autism responds, "they didn't hit the hallway." I responded by telling him that they don't literally mean to hit the hallway. He stated, "I take everything literally." This response put a smile to my face because it is very important for a person with disability to have is an understanding their disability. My student obviously understood some characteristics of autism.
Getting three Acer laptops in my classroom, will provide more choices with regards to how instruction is presented and how my students respond. I will have an opportunity to create online instruction to meet the individual needs of my students. My students will also get more exposure to technology which will prepare for the future.
This project will make a huge difference for my students.
Even though I teach one grade level, my students are at various grade levels because of their cognitive abilities. While some students require concrete ways of learning, others require abstract or representational presentation. Technology is a great way to reach students who are not only struggling and needed additional practice, but for those who are ahead and would benefit from enrichment.
