Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with a creative and meaningful learning experience. They deserve every opportunitie that is available to them.
My students are bilingual and many of them are first generation elementary students.
A lot of the families were impacted by Harvey, many losing everything, having to start all over again. Despite all the challenges they face they are always eager to learn new information. "Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do".
In order to be successful my students need to be exposed to writing in a variety of ways.
My Project
Writing is the foundation of the future. The goal is to help my students understand how writing works, that it connects in meaningful ways to reading, and that it communicates information, through words and symbols. The writing utensils and materials that will be used in the writing center daily will help create the future leaders of this country.
Writing is a wonderful way to communicate ideas.
In March we are going to publish our book about animals. We are in need of supplies and utensils in order for my students to tap their untapped potential. It was a rewarding experience watching my students read their work and realizing what they can accomplish. I am excited to see the future authors in the making.
