Help me give my students cubbies so that they feel welcome , have a safe place to hang their belongings, and have a sense of pride, with an organized start to their day!
My five and six year old students from Binghamton New York are from a Title I low income elementary school. We have various learning needs;and, many of the students are English as Second Language Learners. We provide an opportunity to learn and thrive within the district. My energetic first graders enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore.
They gleefully read books, draw pictures, and solve problems throughout our day.
They beam with joy as they proudly identify letters and discover sounds. They love to learn!
My Project
The mobility rate is very high at my school. Students are often yearning for a safe place to call home. Our school has many resources to try and help make this happen. The majority of the students qualify for free breakfast snack, and lunch. Many of my students also qualify for the food bank's backpack of food for the weekends as well. Our school is sponsored for coat and backpack giveaways as well. It is my hope that when the students enter our building that they feel welcomed and know that it is a clean, safe place to learn.
At this time, I don't have enough coat hooks in our closet for the students to hang their backpacks and coats.
We try and teach the students to come to school and use organizational skills right from the start of their day ,as part of their morning routine. However, it is difficult for the students to get organized and take pride in their belongings; if ,we don't have enough hooks for their well loved backpacks and coats. Sometimes we even need to bag the student's belongings due to the transfer of bed bugs and head lice as well. I would love to welcome my students each morning with a cubby of their own to help start an organized safe place to call home and learn. If our project is funded, each child would have their own special spot to store their belongings , and feel safe and ready to learn. We strive for each child to find the leader inside. What better way to start the day, then for our future leaders to have a designated , organized, clean , safe place, to park their special backpacks and coats. Our future leaders deserve a special parking place!
