Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Parents are proud and excited when their children are identified as Gifted and Talented. But then they want to know what programs do we offer to nurture these talented youth? Unfortunately, for several years, we've only differentiated assignments within the classroom. Can we do more for our future?
This is a Title One school in California which means that a majority of students come from homes with little income.
The school, and the GATE program, is culturally diverse and includes Latino, African-American, and Asian children. The students who are in the GATE program have been identified through intellectual testing and/or on the basis of consistent high achievement. These children are very interested in learning and are self-motivated leaders in the school community.
My Project
The STAR workshops are great because they make so many connections! With ZOME Tools the students learn math, science, geometry, technology, art, and architecture all while having a super fun time! The future artists and the future scientists make connections to further their learning. Making the event a Family NIght gets the parents involved in the fun and helps build our community. It inspires the children and the adults to approach learning more creatively.
We are tired of waiting for a budget.
This year we are actively seeking support to supplement our Gifted and Talented program with excitement and novelty. These kids are our future innovators and they require and deserve some extra resources to grow and reach their full potential.
S.T.A.R. Education
(S.T.A.R. Education will bring a hands-on science and technology based workshop to our school in the form of a ZOME Family NIght to enrich the education of our Gifted and Talented students.)
