My Students
My ninth grade Humanities students are a spirited bunch of young minds. They are eager to learn about practical and applicable topics that they can implement their writing and communications skills in.
They want to learn about global issues and communicate their ideas in different ways.
Through a variety of media, they are learning how to navigate and communicate in this world. They have the desire to learn in many different ways and to express themselves in an even wider variety of ways.
My Project
We are requesting 25 copies of The Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming. Living on an island, many of the students are unaware or insufficiently aware of the climate crisis. They have become complacent in blaming past generations and don't feel empowered to make a change, or more commonly don't care enough to make a change. I, and we all, need them to understand that their generation has the most to lose and by teaching The Uninhabitable Earth, it will honestly show them the stakes.
These kids are the change that the Earth needs to make it through the climate crisis and they have to know what they're up against.
Through an interdisciplinary project, the 9th grade teachers intend to equip our students for the future and help to make a positive change for us all.
