My middle school students are some of the bravest, charismatic and most resilient students Texas. 85% of the population is economically disadvantaged, share homes with other families or share a wardrobe with a relative, yet these kids manage to make to school 95% of the time (though they are lacking backpacks, school supplies and sometimes proper hygiene due to circumstances beyond their control). Due to Hurricane Harvey and the recent heavy flooding the that live in some of the poorest of conditions.
Help me give my students the Kindles they need to help further their learning through technology.
These students love to work on projects (especially ones which connect the past to the present) they love to research topics, but we are limited in the amount of time we can use the computer labs and many lack cell phone or tablet technology. Textbooks only answer so many questions, but when students want to dive deeper, it is difficult to fit that need. The Kindle Fires I am requesting for my students will benefit their learning and understanding of not only the history of the United States but the world around them. Thank you for your time.
The Kindle Fires I am requesting for my students will benefit their learning and understanding of not only the history of the United States but the world around them. Learning history has evolved past simply memorizing facts and dates and students are now pushed to analyze the events of the past and understand how the actions of others affect our world today. Students are more focused on cause and effect of events, context, analysis of bias, point of view, and connection to current events. This has rendered traditional ways of teaching history and traditional uses of textbooks almost obsolete.
The easiest way for my students to achieve in their understanding of history comes from research and in-depth discovery using digital tools and resources available to them.
They will use sites such as Nearpod, Kahoot, Quizlets and YouTube and Teachertube to revisit history from various perspectives and upload and create their own perspectives and various video projects they can share with the world.
