Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My AP Human Geography students are learning deep geographical concepts and need materials that can deepen their learning and make it relevant to them. These magazines and CIA World Factbooks are essential resources that my students will be able to use and apply what they learn in my class.
My students come from diverse backgrounds.
These students are new to high school and are attempting an AP course at the earliest age possible (freshman year). They are highly driven and competitive among themselves. This is the cream of the crop at our school and their imprint on the school's culture and success begins with my AP class.
My Project
My students are learning complex concepts on how to analyze world issues by using human geography. They are getting deeper than they ever have before and they need the resources that allow them to apply what they learn to the real world. They need articles on current issues with graphics, maps, and data to analyze. They also need a resource that allows them to compare and contrast regions, countries, and various types of demographic data. All of this can be supplied through National Geographic Magazines, The Economist, and The CIA World Factbooks.
My students need to practice what they learn or they will be swamped with details and concepts, but no context for them.
These resources allow my students the ability to practice their skills and deeper thinking by applying our concepts to current issues around the globe. It is imperative that they start applying what they learn to where they are living.
