Kindergarten is such a big year for students! In my kindergarten class, I have twenty-five students who love coming to school! For a lot of them, this is their first time experiencing school. Of my twenty-five students, nine of them are English Language Learners and we have two special education students. Even though they are all different in some way, we are still one big family that loves to be around one another.
Our students are our future, so it is important for them to gain the experiences and knowledge they need to reach their full potential to do great in the future.
To do this, we need to integrate different resources and materials in the classroom. This not only gives our students the experience and knowledge they need to succeed, but it also engages them to build their love for school and learning!
My Project
What better way to learn than through hands-on play? My students are much more engaged, excited, and motived to learn when I make it fun for them.
While we live in a digital age, it is still important to find learning opportunities that require zero electronic technology.
A pretend play center gives students another choice of play while learning and "unplug" from technology.
This requested Melissa & Doug Grocery Store/Lemonade Stand and store accessories will help them practice their financial literacy skills through working with pretend money in exchanging goods. They get to become sellers and buyers themselves, which is something that they will definitely see in the real world. They can practice the hard choice between spending or saving money, a real life choice that they will have to make themselves when they are older! It will also help reinforce basic mathematical skills, such as adding and subtracting money to figure out totals and change.
I want my students to become financially literate even at this young age. It will help them be more aware of making, spending, investing, and managing money and continue that awareness as they get older to use those skills in the real world.
