Students need to be actively engaged in school by creating digital movies and book reviews! I teach third grade Reading and Social Studies in a brand new school.

As a new school, we have limited money to spend on much-needed technology. Using video cameras will help students be globally competitive in the future. I would love to engage student-readers in movie-making. It is an awesome opportunity to have students actively engaged in not only reading but completing their books by creating digital movie book reviews.

I need just one Flip video camera to make this happen. Students will benefit in so many ways. Just one of many ideas is to have students write scripts of book reviews to share new books that they have read. Students can film themselves sharing the plot of these books and make DVDs with movie-making software. Others can then view the book reviews and decide which books they want to read. This will improve students' reading skills and love of books.

With your help, we can make dreams a reality for the third grade students. They will be able to reach for the stars and learn to think critically about the world in which we live.
