Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of the students at this school are learning English as a second language. Many of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. They love coming to school to learn, and they love everything about school: reading, writing, math, and extracurricular activities.

My students are in a low socioeconomic area, but they love coming to school to learn in a safe and warm environment.

They want to come to school every day to learn and be with friends who help them grow to become productive adults in the future.

My Project

My students would like to learn more about insects that live around their school and community. We will be studying and learning about insects. We will also be using the books as references. Next, students will go out in the field to look for insects that live and thrive in the community. By using the entomology kits, we will collect insects in nearby fields, water areas, and parks...there are no limits in finding the insects that live in our area. After that, students will use collection kits to keep and store and study the insects (body parts, how they survive, how they help the environment). We may also use microscopes to carefully study their body parts to confirm what specific type of insect live around our school. Students may also use and refer to reference books to attest and clarify their findings. Students will finally release insects in their natural habitats.

Our goal is to help students understand that insects are helpful in our community, and they play an important role in the animal food web.
