I have 26 first and second grade students in my classroom. They live in a low socioeconomic neighborhood and all qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. A lot of my students are in foster care or are being raised by grandparents. Some have been exposed to life situations they should never see or experience as a child. School is a safe place for them. I make sure they are cared for and loved.
Building positive relationships is key.
My motto is "In case no one has told you lately, you are amazing, strong, brave, wonderful, kind, loved and worthy. There is no one like you. The world needs you." If kids believe in themselves and know you believe in them daily success will begin to occur. Once you build that trust and bond then the academics will come as well as problem solving skills and friendship building.
Our kids lack real life experiences. They do not have opportunities to get out and experience the world outside their neighborhood or classroom. With classroom funding being cut, we now have no monies for extra things. We cannot fund field trips or buy extras things to enhance the curriculum.
My Project
My project is for manipulatives to enhance our STEM educational tubs. We are building future inventors and engineers daily.
We do not recieve any extra funding for hands-on manipulatives for our curriculum.
They will be able to draft plans, build them and write about them. They will be able to make changes to improve upon their ideas, too. All curricular areas are touched upon. Through exploration using the blocks and Crystal Climbers, students will use critical thinking skills, coding, math calculations, science, technology, reading and writing. Having fun while learning! Best gift ever.
