Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are curious learners who come from diverse backgrounds. They are an inquisitive group and they love to build and explore. In our class we collaborate, persevere, and challenge each other to learn more and do our best.
My goal this year is to provide my students the space to learn by doing through play and hands on activities.
We need the space and the materials to continue our STEM projects and to continue to learn and grow together.
My Project
Students in my class will use these materials to build, explore, and discover the world around them. These items will be added to our Explore Center which is our own version of a MakerSpace. The Design and Build Engineering centers have building materials and challenge cards that my students will use to solve problems together. The Magna Tiles will allow students to create their own designs and will be used with the addition of task cards that challenge students to make their own versions of architecture from places all around the world. The Create a Chain Reaction STEM kit will develop my students understanding of gravity, force and motion, momentum, and require them to problem solve. Finally, the Building Brick STEM kit will engage my students in developing their creativity with one of their favorite building materials!
It has been said that teachers are preparing students for jobs that do not yet exist.
Even though we may not know what jobs students will have in the future we do know that these jobs will require ingenuity, creativity, perseverance, and the ability to collaborate. These are the skills fostered by STEM activities in the classroom. Thank you for helping me to foster these skills and inspire a love for learning in my students today.
