Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The High School of Fashion Industries has been the birthplace to many existing and future designers. Our vision and purpose has been the same since its start in 1926. Global changes are reflected on curriculum to serve the needs of our students and our industry .
Our mission of teaching the arts and the industry of fashion remains unmatched by any other US high school.
We specialize in the fundamentals of garment pattern-making and construction, fashion illustration, Merchandising & Marketing and Graphics Illustration.
My Project
The term 'starving artist' comes to mind as I try to obtain the very expensive tools my students need to create a fashion design portfolio. I teach in the very high school I attended and am reminded of how I was not able to create an impressive fashion portfolio because I couldn't afford the markers and paper. I want to change that for my students.
To produce a college level portfolio, potential fashion designers need professional level tools, such as illustration markers.
Only with the assistance of these tools can they reach their budding potential and show their future colleges the talent they possess.
It is our hope that we can continue to provide for them as a NYC public school despite the usual public school funding obstacles. This is why we need you!
