Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In the year 2010, most people have access to all sorts of information in the palm of their hands. Students also should have a library that can meet their needs. Budget cuts are hurting all schools, but we need to do all we can to help students get to college.
My students do not have a lot of resources.
Most of them own cell phones, but less than 10 percent have smartphones. Our school has less technological resources each year. Most rooms have three working computers and we no longer have a tech guy. We do not have a full-time librarian either and the teachers are now doing more than ever to help our students be competitive when they apply to colleges and be successful when they get there. Spelling words correctly is very important.
My Project
Dictionaries seem old school, but without access to technology they are imperative. My students need a lot of practice writing on demand this year. The majority are second language learners and need all the help they can get to be successful. Having a handheld dictionary that is accessible to them from their desk will help them in their writing. We currently have only two they take awhile to get around the room.
This donation will make a difference to my students.
Every year I am amazed at the generosity of people and how much my students appreciate the resources that are donated. My students are motivated and they want to succeed. I will do whatever it takes to get them to the next level.
