Help me give my students a platform for their stories and ideas! As beginning writers, they need a place to store their thoughts, from the brainstorming process to the final draft.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Last school year, many schools went virtual. While this decision kept many of us safe, remote learning proved to be a struggle for many students. My first graders last stepped foot into a classroom setting when they were just preschoolers. Despite this, my students come in every day with enthusiasm, curiosity, and an eagerness to share what they know and learned from the previous days' lessons. I am truly blessed to be their teacher!
While the community is considered low-income, what I see from my first graders is a community that is vibrant with culture and has a deep love for family and education.
My students are funny, creative, smart, and kind. They share their culture and traditions in the stories they tell me. They are so eager to learn- asking questions and working together to find the answers. All I want is to create a classroom environment that makes them feel safe to explore, experiment, and feel loved.
My Project
The writing notebooks and folders I am requesting will be used during our writing block. Many of my first graders have not set foot inside of a classroom since preschool. Therefore, writing letters to words and words to sentences has been a challenge for them. Despite these challenges, my students are always excited to write and grow in their writing abilities.
My students thrive on structure and give so much more when they are heard and given a place to share what they know.
These materials will provide one cohesive system for storing their ideas as we go through the writing process- from brainstorming to the final product!
