My students are very passionate about the arts and love getting to experience hands on projects that challenge their creativity. I am blessed to have students that have chosen to take my class and are truly excited to learn and try new things. They get to experience new ways to learn and think in the Art Room.
Many of my students who struggle in other classes excel in the Art Room because they have the freedom to devise multiple creative solutions and become problem solvers.
This is part of why art is so essential in schools. Art helps students develop a growth mindset that empowers students to seek challenges and not be afraid of failure.
Our school is in a rural community in Southern Illinois. Although some of my students are able to afford things they need and art supplies, many struggle to afford the basics and any other supplies they may want or need. Some do not have basic technology at home or even access to wi-fi. Access to technology in the classroom provides them opportunities they would not have otherwise.
My Project
The creative industry is expanding and changing every day and incorporating more and more technology. I would like to purchase five digital drawing tablets to allow my students to fuse their love of art and the necessity of software and technology.
Many of my students have no idea of all the careers that a basic knowledge of technology would open up to them.
I plan to use these drawing tablets to give my students to use a stylus in programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop that are utilized in creative careers in the real world.
These tablets will allow them to create artwork not possible with a mouse and show them how they can use their drawing skills in fields such as graphic design, animation, interior design, fashion design, game design, and many others.
