My class includes children of recent immigrants and members of homeless families. Most notably, however, my class is made up of children whose families dream of academic success and college graduations.
I have a room full of budding mathematicians, aspiring scientists, and future engineers.
They love hands-on projects, music, field trips, and let’s be honest…recess!
In a school where 85% of students qualify for free lunch and 25% of the student body live in shelters, it’s my responsibility to present opportunities to try new things, work with school staff to organize experiential field trips, and encourage them to take academic risks.
After the recent implementation of literature circles and a fun class read aloud, I have seen a thrilling change in my students' interest in reading. I'm anxious to harness their current excitement by introducing another fun read aloud. For this reason, I kindly ask your help to provide a class set of 'Matilda'. I know my class will love this story! I can already hear them asking to read "one more chapter!"
Matilda, with her endless curiosity and insatiable desire for books, is the perfect role model!
I'm confident this story will be memorable and impactful for my students. I will use this book to help guide engaging cross-curriculum lessons.
