More than half of students from low‑income households

My students need trombones that are lightweight and easy to hold like the pBone. Many students are interested in trombone but it is too heavy for them to carry/hold.
At my school, we have more than 50% of the population who would like to play in the band but cannot afford an instrument. Our school owns a few instruments that I lend to the students free of charge, but we do not have any trombones! The pBone would make our performances a blast!
My students are motivated 3rd, 4th,and 5th graders who love music!
Each year, I turn away many students from the band/strings program because I simply do not have enough instruments for every student who wants to join. Over the years, we have had several successful concerts, festivals, and other small performances that have been a delight to our school. We also are proud to have many 5th grade students who audition for performing and visual arts middle schools as well as students who audition for select ensembles within the community. Our students come from humble, hardworking households that strive to give their student every opportunity to be successful.
Our new pBones (plastic trombones) will be used for all of our concerts, festivals, and performances. pBones are great for young trombonists as they are lightweight and come in fun colors that kids love. Imagine going to our concerts and hearing the awesome low brass sound of a trombone and seeing 2 beautifully colored trombones proudly tooting away. Currently we have 1 student who plays the trombone, as her family is able to afford her this opportunity, however this is not the case for most of my students. If we receive these trombones, they would be our first school-owned trombones. All instruments that are school-owned are loaned to students free of charge all year long!
Each year when recruiting for band, I show the kids all the instruments they can choose that are in a traditional elementary band.
And each year I show them a picture of a trombone as I don't have one to show or loan to them to try. We also have a hard time choosing music as we are very top heavy with flutes, clarinets, and trumpets but no low brass sounds. Over the years, I have encountered many motivated young trombonist but because of financial shortcomings, I have to turn them away.
