I teach fifth grade Math and Science to about 45 students at a Title I school. My students receive free breakfast and lunch as more than half come from low-income households. Many of my students, receive ESE support and resources in addition to speech/language or occupational therapy.
My classroom is a space where my students can collaborate with each other to facilitate learning.
We value respect and the power of discourse. It is a two-way street in our room. I give them the tools they need to succeed and they utilize those tools to reach their full potential.
Even if my students are struggling they always put forth the best effort in the classroom.
My Project
Every year our school participates in something called Deal Day. This stands for "Drop Everything And Lead". Students are allowed to sign up for a club of their choice that they will attend once per month throughout the entire school year.
This club allows students to feel included and important.
This year, my club is Funky Friendship Bracelet Making. Students who join my club are often interested in expressing themselves creatively, and I am hoping to help them further that artistic expression.
We will be using the supplies from this Donor's Choose project every time we meet. Students will be required to use the embroidery thread to create custom jewelry pieces and use the beads as decoration. The How-To guide will ensure that students are challenging themselves with a new design every meeting.
