My students are energetic and ready to learn about music. I have four choir classes and a special needs class called Music Experience. The choirs are committed to learning how to read music well, sight-read, and practice techniques to become talented choral singers. The Music Experience class provides an opportunity for special needs students to participate in music through singing, playing percussion instruments and movement.
My students are 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in rural Oklahoma, who love to sing and experience music.
The school is large for its small town feel and serves 700 students in the 6th though 8th grade. The students at the school come from a variety of economic backgrounds and cultures. Students with little are learning alongside those with an overabundance. Our school is committed to assuring that each student receives an education to make them successful as they move on to higher education.
My Project
My classroom is run on a tight schedule. We rehearse 3 days a week, learn theory on Theory Thursday and then play games on Fun Friday to apply our learning throughout the week. My students work so hard Monday through Thursday that they live for Fun Fridays. They love learning through playing a variety of music games as well as having fun with the other choir students.
The buzzers and lap boards would be used in a variety of games that would promote music reading skills, composition and dictation.
The buzzers would make our quiz style games for vocabulary fun and interesting. The lapboards would give every student the chance to assess their learning without hearing the answers from someone else.
My students are ready to continue learning to read and write music through activities and games. Won't you help us continue to be innovative in our classroom?
