Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Our students are 9th-12th graders who receive instruction in the areas of functional academics, vocational skills, independent living, and social skills in an adaptive classroom environment.

This project will allow us to provide functional "money math" lessons to small groups.

The kidney table will provide students with a space where they can work alongside peers to complete parallel or complementary tasks. The TouchMoney materials will support the interventions used in class for counting money. The Coin-U-Lator materials will support those students who require higher levels of support to access similar money math tasks. The plastic coins will support the generalization of learned skills, ensuring that students can count tangible "money", and will provide opportunities for interactive learning. All of these materials will help our students learn to count coins and bills, determine if an amount is sufficient to cover a purchase, and calculate appropriate change.

The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to access materials to target higher-level skills. Students will learn to calculate sales tax, compare prices, and budget.
