I am a first year high school teacher seeking to build up a fun and safe classroom environment for my students. I currently teach at a Title I school in a not so typical classroom environment at the moment.
My students are learning within trailers off campus from our base school due to a tornado having devastated the community a year ago.
While the circumstances are unique, the students are still a great group of kids who deserve to experience a fun classroom environment, whether it be in a normal classroom environment, or in a temporary trailer classroom environment. This group consists primarily of high schoolers around the age of 14 to 15 who are just beginning their high school experience as freshman.
They are also dealing with the effects of a pandemic and experiencing some of the harder years of schooling (middle school) virtually. This means that relationship building is at the core of our class values, as well as establishing trust, and encouraging them to become accountable and independent.
My Project
I am a first year high school math teacher looking to build relationships with my students by making math lessons fun and engaging.
Providing fun math games within the classroom will help bridge the gap with students and their excitement about math, as well as allow them to understand real world connections they can make to the concepts we are learning in the classroom.
Giving students access to these math games and hands on materials will allow me to strengthen my relationship with my students, as well as help them to build a relationship with math.
