Help me give my students flexible seating with wobbly chairs and cushions. I want my students to have a place where they can learn while feeling comfortable and staying focused.
I have not met my students yet for this upcoming year, however like all first graders they will be curious, adventurous, and energetic. I am excited to ignite the love of learning in them and show my first graders the importance of being life-long learners while being actively engaged in our classroom.
My students will have lots of time dedicated to them being able to experience and explore things for themselves during reading and math stations as well as STEM activities while sitting around the room.
Their workday will consist of individual, pair, and group activities.
Many of them come from low-income households but this will not hold them back from being the best they can be in our classroom and know that they are special and can do whatever they put their mind to.
My Project
My functional, fantastic flexible seating project will help my wiggly first graders change seats and give them the opportunity to wobble as needed. The wobbly chairs will give my antsy students the ability to move around when necessary. My students that feel most comfortable in their desk space will also have options of flexibility with the wobbly cushions, bar stools, and seat cushions. Flexible seating will give my students choice and make them feel like they have some control over their environment.
Students that are comfortable and able to move are more likely to be successful and productive during the school day.
I want my first graders to have the choice to sit at their desks or somewhere comfortable around the room during the many transitions throughout the day. The donut balls will be inflated and ready for someone to choose during a reading station or used with a clipboard during a math station. Students that enjoy sitting on their knees will be able to do so longer with the kneeling pads as they work in groups on the floor. I want my students to be active and engaged throughout the day and I believe flexible seating can help this to happen.
